Why Does It Happen

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is a common and important health care problem that is under-reported, under-diagnosed and under treated

The most common causes of stress urinary incontinence are pregnancy and childbirth, especially vaginal delivery. Other causes include aging and menopause, estrogen deficiency, chronic cough, obesity, high impact activities over many years, and previous hysterectomy.

Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM) is a new term for menopausal symptoms associated with the physical changes of the vulva, vagina and lower urinary tract – all related to estrogen deficiency

What Can I Do?

For urinary incontinence (SUI)

What, am I supposed to do this while sitting at my desk? And do I really have to do this so frequently?

No time, I’m a busy woman.

Isn’t that painful? And can I really miss time or take sick leave?

For Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM)

But what if I can’t or don’t want to use estrogen?

What, am I supposed to do this while sitting at my desk? And do I really have to do this so frequently?

Ok awesome but sometimes it just doesn’t happen for one reason or another.

This is important, but it won’t work 100% by itself.

Fotona Laser - New Non-Surgical and Minimally Invasive Treatment

This innovative and highly effective treatment is Health Canada approved treatment.

The Fotona laser causes a photo thermal heating effect on the collagen in the vaginal walls and urethra causing the restructuring and regrowth of collagen.

The result is a thickening and tightening of the vaginal walls and urethra.

Studies have shown that almost 70% of patients treated with incontilase are dry after 120 days.  And all of those treated reported improvement, with up to 94% patient satisfaction rate, and NO ADVERSE EFFECTS

How does it work and what is the process?

  • No sedation or anesthetic required
  • Minimally invasive, incisionless
  • Laser pulses slowly along the total length of the vaginal wall
  • Treatment time is approximately 25 minutes
  • There can be some temporary discomfort and sensation of heat.   This dissipates quickly with no lasting discomfort
  • Walk in, walk out procedure (no down time), with return to most of usual activities (except a temporary avoidance of heavy lifting and strenuous exercise)
  • 2-3 treatments are required, approximately 1 month apart.

Fotona Laser - New Non-Surgical and Minimally Invasive Treatment

Thanks to the gyne laser, I am no longer racing to the bathroom to avoid accidents and I don’t have any issue with dribbling when sneezing or coughing. No pain or down time with this procedure, totally noninvasive. I would recommend for anyone to at least try it as an option

I had urinary incontinence for so many years. It was so hard that i wasn’t able to go for a brisk walk, jog, or run. Even when just laughing I would leak. Coughing and sneezing added to that. I was even having trouble at work because i couldn’t hold it and i had to go to washroom from time to time. I was referred to an specialist and advised me to have a procedure. Surgery. I rejected it because I wasn’t sure if my body would accept the mesh that would be put in. Until Dr. Heather Diamond introduced this new treatment! Incontilase.! Now, my life had changed so much. I can go to the gym, jog, run with my kids. I dont use continence pads. I could laugh so much! In my work i usually go to the washroom on my breaks only. I feel comfortable now. I know that I’m leak free. Gives me more confidence to be myself. I have so much to thank Dr. Diamond for. She helped me to have a new life to enjoy... it is life changing.

I’m not sure where to begin! It’s something I truly believe every female over 35 should consider as an important part of women’s health maintenance/recovery. It was essentially pain free, quick, no downtime and Dr. Diamond was brilliant. I noticed a difference in my pelvic floor stability and my sexual health improved that was noted by myself and my husband

Treatment time is approximately 25 minutes.

A numbing cream will be applied to the treatment area prior to the procedure to minimize any discomfort.  There can be some temporary discomfort-a sensation of heat and/or a sensation of snapping of rubber bands.   This dissipates quickly with no lasting discomfort or pain.  The tissues will not be cut or burned.

This is a walk-in, walk-out treatment with no down time. You will be able to continue with most of your day to day activities.  You will be advised to avoid heavy lifting or vigorous high impact activities for 4 weeks while the collagen remodels.  Sexual intercourse should be avoided for 1-2 weeks.

Although some patients experience minor discomfort as a result of vaginal laser treatments, this is quite temporary.  Most patients experience increased vaginal discharge for the first 2-3 days after the procedure.  This is a normal part of the healing process.  There may be mild swelling, bleeding or a feeling of fullness for a couple of days as well.

The Fotona Vaginal Erbium lasers have been studied since 2012.  To date there have been no long term risks or consequences reported.
